The House on Lang

As much as I love how Orlando’s culinary scene has grown over the past couple of years, I’ve been longing for its brick and mortar retailers to expand and offer great in-person experiences in the way of local boutiques. You often find these types of local boutiques as you explore neighborhoods like Nashville, Austin, and Chicago, and you fall in love with their local charm.

While we’ve made some headway in the local retail world, I'm so excited that we have a brand new multi-experience space in the Mills 50 district that is also women-owned. The House on Lang is brought to us by local owners Julie Edwards and Christie McLennan.

Julie’s background is rooted in the corporate world, but now with The House of Lang she has been able to fulfill a dream of creating a space where art, retail, and community gathering can thrive.

Christie’s background is in art and retail management, so it’s fitting this is her next creative chapter. You can see her handy work on the outdoor mural.

This restored and updated space is divided into different sections as you wander the area, each one of them with dazzling eye-candy and great product selection. The first space holds parts of The Laundry collection with a mix of seasonal staples and some more fun pop culture-inspired pieces. Keep an eye out for some fashionable tv show tees like Friends, Sex and the City, and Grey's Anatomy. The next space holds the men’s clothing as well as some gift items, candles, etc. Here is where I found a great set of The Office coasters.

The next small space holds vintage items and includes a beautiful picture-worthy spot with their vintage magazine wall. During my visit, Julie explained that updating each area was a labor of love within their family, from shelving units, wall treatments, and this beautiful collage of vintage magazine pages. Look closely, and you’ll see some family pictures mixed in as well.

You’ll also notice art throughout the space, which will always be sourced from local artists.

The final indoor space houses the Home Collection with plenty of attractive home goods, and doubles as their indoor space for events and classes. Look closely as you check out the goods, and you’ll notice tags that say “Local,” identifying pieces that have been made here in Orlando by local artists.

In the current COVID climate, having an outdoor space is now more essential than ever, and at the House on Lang they have a “backyard” that can also be used for events but is also meant to be a place to linger. Their plans include live music, local food trucks, or hanging out with a coffee. Of course, it’s complete with another picture-worthy spot plus a swing.

The pricing definitely varies as you move from section to section, but for reference I bought a cute blouse for $32, and the coaster set I purchased was also $32.

The House on Lang is celebrating their opening weekend right now, so be sure to follow them on Instagram at @thehouseonlang and you can also check out their goods and inquire about events on their website www.houseonlang.com.
